These red Victorian baby shoes are among the finest to be found. They are in excellent overall condition, are scalloped, and retain their four original buttons. Even more importantly, they are embossed on the bottom of the soles with the image of an Indian, and are identified as having been made at the Bedford Shoe Company Manufacturers in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. These little beauties measure 1 1/2" wide, 3 3/4" long, and 3" tall (without the decorative lace stuffing and silk ribbon), and are marked on the bottom "0" and "D".
By way of history, the Bedford Shoe Company was started in 1891 by Alonzo F. Bedford. The original building that housed the company is now known as the Goodyear Building, and is part of Dickinson College.
