A proper fretting saw that accurately slots fretboards and a proper fretting hammer are absolutely essential. Every professional luthier owns these tools and would not ever attempt to build a instrument without them. Fret work is the most crucial part of build a instrument that plays well. You simply can not do a pro level fret job with second rate tools not suited for the job.the fret saw has a spine to stiffen the blade so you can accurately cut fret slots .the blades kerf (width)is just .001 less than a standard fret tang so your frets will seat properly and securely. The hammer has a brass head .brass is softer than nickel silver fretwire so your frets will be protected from deformation and damage. if you try using a different type of hammer you risk damaging your frets and fretboard. the hammer is light and has a small enough head to fit between fret spacing so you only hit 1 fret at a time and don't risk damaging frets you already seated .with these tools it is much easier and quicker to do quality fret work.
